Birth is so much more than just getting your baby out of your body. It is an intense, profound, mysterious, physical, emotional, and often spiritual journey. You need more than blood pressure checks and fetal monitoring and pain medication. You, your partner, and your baby need to be cherished and cared for before, during, and after the physical birth process. You need and deserve personal attention, help, and encouragement as you experience one of the most incredible transitions of your life.
A doula understands these complex needs of a family at this time and brings a sense of comfort, reassurance, and many other benefits to them. A doula has the understanding and patience for the process of birth and the newborn phase; is there to offer encouraging words, guidance, and support with physical comfort; helps the family communicate effectively with their medical care providers in order to advocate for themselves. A doula also supports partners in knowing what to expect and how to participate comfortably in the process. A doula is there to support and serve the family in the practical ways they need as they journey through birth and beyond. |
